From Family Kitchen to Community Heart
The Beginning: Jernerald Barnes grew up in a kitchen where food was love. Every Sunday, his family gathered around dishes that had been passed down through generations – recipes that carried stories, traditions, and the kind of authentic flavor that can't be rushed or faked. When he met Shannon Morant, he found someone who shared that same passion for bringing people together through incredible food.
The Challenge: Living in Hampton Roads, they watched as authentic flavor disappeared from the food scene. Fast food chains dominated street corners, serving convenience over quality. Military families, shipyard workers, students, and locals were all settling for meals that left them hungry for something real – something that tasted like home.
The Vision: That's when Jernerald and Shannon made a decision that would change everything. They would bring their family's authentic recipes to the streets of Hampton Roads. Not just as another food truck, but as a beacon of real flavor in a world of artificial everything.
The Mission Today: Every morning, Jernerald and Shannon fire up Sha-Mar's Kitchen with one goal: to serve meals that don't just fill you up, but fill your soul. From Langley AFB to Newport News Shipbuilding, from Hampton University to Peninsula Town Center – they're building a community of food lovers who refuse to settle for ordinary.
